About the event
Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts College Knowledge Webinar
As 2021 approaches, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts ("GSEMA") is excited to offer a College Knowledge Webinar for Girl Scouts primarily in high school and middle school. Hosted by WisdemUSA, this powerful virtual event will equip Girl Scounts (and parents) with critical knowledge to use as they navigate the college admissions process.
Our webinar will start with a robust presentation focused on demystifying college. Following this kickoff discussion, all participants will attend one engaging breakout session, selected from the list below. Please indicate your breakout session preference on the registration form. Be sure to write down the number of your session and save it. (You'll need it later.)
1. College Readiness: A Four-Year Roadmap
This breakout session will provide an overview of what to expect in each high school grade as students and families navigate the path to college admissions. Presenter will provide a timeline for tracking progress and help with identifying areas where students and families may need extra support. Total time: 60 mins
2. Navigating Financial Aid and How to Afford College
Financial aid is a defining element of the college search for many students and families. It can be the difference between a student enrolling at his/her dream college or enrolling elsewhere. Regardless of income level, it is beneficial to understand the financial implications of pursuing higher education. That’s why we’ve crafted a breakout session to inform parents and students about the costs of a college education and help them plan accordingly. Total time: 45 mins
3. Homeschooling: A Roadmap Toward College
With more Americans embracing homeschooling, GSEMA and WisdemUSA believe it is important to address students and families who are navigating college readiness through this emerging approach. The session is designed to cover key subjects at a high level. Examples include character development, extracurricular involvement, and STEM curriculum. Total time: 45 mins
4. Writing a Compelling College Admissions Essay
Essays are an immensely important part of each student’s college application. They allow each applicant to tell her unique story and explain what she will contribute to the college. Because of their significance, many students are intimidated by the challenge of writing college admissions essays. This breakout session will provide the guidance and strategies needed to help students craft strong essays and put their best foot forward. Total time: 45 mins
