Get a College Recommendation Letter

Since you are reading this, it is probably safe to assume that you are submitting a last-minute university application. One glaring downside of this is the potential challenge it creates with obtaining a college recommendation letter as part of your package of college application materials. A college recommendation letter typically serves as a useful part of the college admissions process, allowing teachers and others to shed light on an applicant in ways that a transcript cannot. The upshot is that they're a valuable asset to many. They can speak to character, intelligence, adverse circumstances overcome, or any number of other relevant things about a candidate for college admissions. Wisdem USA generally recommends that our clients obtain a college recommendation letter to the extent possible. If you're submitting a last-minute university application, try to think quickly of (ideally) a non-family member who knows you very well and can speak to your character or other capacity for success in college. Then reach out to them immediately and ask if they will write a college recommendation letter.

Other advice about your college recommendation letter

Teachers and coaches are usually the best sources for a college recommendation letter. But you can also use a boss, a mentor, or other person (again, ideally non-family) who knows you well. In this situation, the key is to identify your recommenders quickly, secure their commitment to write, and then shepherd them through the letter submission process as soon as possible. Note that they will usually upload the college recommendation letter through a link provided by the Common Application or another application platform. One other thing to note is that some potential college recommendation letter recommenders can be daunted by the prospect of writing a college recommendation letter because they assume they will need to write a mini novel. Assure them that this is not the case, and that whatever they can muster (provided it is at least 3 paragraphs) will suffice, given the short timeframe. If all of this sounds confusing and overwhelming, contact Wisdem USA for a complimentary consultation, and we will happily begin guiding you through it.
